I have a very important announcement to make! Blue Blink, an anime that was inspired by the classic Russian fairytale/poem The Humpbacked Horse is now available on Anime Sols. Although this show is known to be the last TV show that Osamu Tezuka supervised, it remains one of Tezuka’s lesser known works. So I dedicate this Tumblr post to increase awareness of Blue Blink.
The story of Blue Blink is about Kakeru, the son of a famous children’s book author, Haruhiko Shiki. One day, he finds a mysterious blue ball. The blue ball turns out to be the injured form of a blue pony named Blink with mysterious powers. Kakeru and his father save the pony’s life and out of gratitude, Blink promises to help Kakeru whenever he calls his name three times. Soon after, Kakeru’s father is kidnapped by the nefarious Emperor Gross. Thus, Kakeru and Blink set on a quest to find his father. They are joined by other characters such as big-brotherly Tanba, the spoiled Princess Kirara, and the mischievous brothers Nitichi and Satchi. This unlikely group of friends travel to mysterious towns, forests and islands in order to find Kakeru’s father. It’s an enjoyable family adventure with a lot of fun characters and places.

I encourage everyone to check this series out on Anime Sols and to consider supporting the possible DVD release. It’s only $30 for the DVD (episodes 1-13) and the Japanese Blue Blink DVD has been out of print for quite a while. Also, anime Sols provides better picture quality and more professional subs than the Viki streams.
